Starting School and An Ugly Cry Face

I can't face vlogging this morning.

I'm feeling quite wobbly, and don't think I want to inflict an emotional outburst on you in all its HD glory.  Let's face it, nobody wants their ugly cry face broadcast on YouTube.

So instead, I am going to write an update to keep my mind off stuff.  Because the boys started school today.

We went yesterday for an Orientation Day, so the boys got a proper look around the campus (which is lovely!) and met some of their teachers (who are also lovely).  We also purchased their uniforms.  This last aspect was a bit chaotic, as I am realizing is the norm in India.  There was a sort-of-queue to try on uniforms and work out your requirements, but that didn't stop people pushing in.  Once we had our list of uniform items, we then followed the crowd and joined another sort-of queue that was for getting photos for ID cards.  What they didn't tell us until we reached the front of that queue is that the boys needed to be wearing the uniform that you had on your list before you could have your photo taken.  So then we had to join another sort-of-queue to pay for the uniform, before returning to the sort-of-queue where we tried on the uniform to collect the uniform, before joining the sort-of-queue for the ID cards.  Aaarrrgggh!  This was all in a very confined office space with about a bazillion other people who seemingly knew what to do, but didn't feel like sharing that information with new people.  Anyway, about an hour and a half later we emerged with all the required t-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and PE kits!  In fact, the boys are quite pleased with their new uniform as it's very casual - they can wear their own shorts/jeans/shoes!

Looking confident and happy in their new uniforms!

Last night, we prepped school bags, packed lunches, and tried to get to bed early, ready for an early start.  Unfortunately, the school is at least an HOUR on the school bus, so we had to be at the front of our apartment complex by 6:45am to be in time for the bus.  To be honest, I had a totally CRAP night's sleep, tossing and turning in bed and worrying about today, so I was already awake when the alarm went off.  It was so early that our milk hadn't been delivered yet, so the boys had toast and yoghurts for breakfast, washed, brushed their teeth, got into their uniforms, and we all headed out together.

On the walk to the bus pick up point, Sam strode confidently ahead with Ethan trying to keep up, but I walked back with Aaron for a bit.  He said he was going to have to be like a grown up today.  I asked him in what way.  He said, "you know, introduce myself and shake hands to make new friends."

As the bus arrived, things got a bit chaotic with all the kids getting on buses.  I managed to give each boy a quick kiss and a squeeze, reminded them to have fun and be brave, and then let them do their thing.  Sam shrugged off the kiss and got straight on the bus and headed for the 'cool' back seat (sigh), Aaron got on looking determined, and Ethan tried to lighten the mood by pulling a goofy mock-horrified face before giving me a big thumbs up.  A few last waves and they were off.

Ethan is such a goofball!

Apparently, the back row is where all the cool kids sit!

It's now about 9:00 am, and the twins should be in their classrooms getting to know their classmates, and Sam should be finishing in his assembly and about to head to his homeroom class.  And I am soon heading out for a cuppa with a lovely expat neighbour who is going to try to take my mind off things.  I pick the twins up at 15:40 at the bus stop and Sam an hour later, so I'm going to try to keep myself busy and occupied today... probably searching the internet for ways you can microchip your children with GPS!!!

I know it's going to be fine.

At an age younger than Sam, I was travelling on a public train to a nearby town and then walking a mile to school every day, so a private air-conditioned bus that takes them door-to-door is not exactly a cause for alarm.

Except that these are my babies.
