Party weekend and end of an era...
Moving on to India is starting to feel very real, and it has given me cause to reflect on the time we have spent here in Texas. I really can't believe that it's been 7 whole years since we moved to Houston. It has been such a special time in our lives, in part, I'm sure because it has been the formative years of our young family. But also because we have genuinely made some of the best friends you could possibly ever want. I don't know whether it's the shared expat experience (because many of these friends are also expats), the stages in our lives (bonding over parenting angst), or the fact that they are just bloody brilliant people, but
I can honestly say the friendships we have forged in our time in America will transcend time and distance.
When we first arrived in Houston I was determined to make friends, and I set up a playgroup called Cheeky Monkeys. Over the years we've had a consistent group of hardcore Cheeky Mummies, and many, many, wonderful people who have joined us for just short periods of time. Unfortunately, there's only a few of us left in Houston now, and I was lucky enough to spend some time with some of them collectively this weekend (see the pic below).
It also got me thinking about all of the rest of the Cheeky Mummies, and the fun we've had over the years... play dates, coffee mornings, birthday parties, playgroup sessions at the library, trampolining, painting, girls' nights out, baby showers, child-free weekends away, Halloween, camping trips, roller skating, kayaking, days at the beach, visits to the zoo, splash pads, swimming pools, fishing, mini-Olympics, Christmas parties, BBQs, Thanksgiving feasts for 30 people, tug-o-wars, fundraisers, bike rides, LOTS of food, and even MORE booze! I went through my photo albums and reminisced by creating a photo album of highlights. I was going to embed the slideshow below, but Google photos is a bit annoying right now and it's lost that function since Picasa went kaput. So instead, I have posted the first photo in the album (Sam meeting Santa at the first ever Cheeky Monkeys Christmas party back in 2010), and if you click here you can visit the album and take a look at them all!
Enjoy!
