Finally Leaving Houston

Image
It's a bit of a longer video than usual, but it covers the all of the chaos of our last 4 days in Houston.

Weekend in Orlando

I'm hiding on my computer to avoid the packing dervishes that are whirling around my house right now. Man, these people are efficient! I just hope they don't accidentally pack the twins. I thought a good way to distract myself would be to write an update about our long weekend in Orlando. After surprising the boys at summer camp on Friday, we drove directly to the airport and caught a flight to Florida. We arrived at our resort, Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, in the early evening, and after checking in we had a quick dinner and explored our surroundings. The hotel was themed for a 60's retro vibe - picture 'The Jetsons' and you've pretty much got it! The boys absolutely LOVED it... the vibrant colours, the hustle and bustle, the noise, the feral kids running around. In Aaron's words: "Orlando is like my paradise". As you can imagine, from Clem's perspective, it was about as far as you can get from paradise as humanly possibl...

Throw Back Thursday!

To use a local Texas phrase... this is not my first rodeo. I have attempted blogging at various times over the last decade, and I've found it a fun and diverting pastime. But one of the best things about it, is that it is like a diary. It captures a moment in your life and records it for posterity. So it was interesting for me to read a blog entry I wrote almost exactly 7 years ago exactly when I was initially settling into life in Houston. Oh, how things have changed since! The overall tone is somewhat negative, and it's far from how I perceive living in Texas now.  I guess I have ironed out a lot of of those niggles I experienced as a newbie!  One thing it's made me realize (although I guess it's no surprise) is that moving to a new country is tough initially.  I'm going to have to steel myself to a rough few months ahead in the knowledge that it will get better eventually.  Anyway, I thought I would share it for s***s and giggles!

Cheers!

Sorry about the low resolution of this video - obviously the glass of wine has impaired my ability to select the right settings when uploading a video to YouTube! :-)
